This fall we introduced a new club logo, actually more like a suite of logos. You can read about the process of how we went about this below, as well as meet the talented young woman who created the designs. |
Art has always been a part of who I am. With my background in fashion design, I knew I wanted to remain in the creative field and continue exploring it here in Germany. That decision led me to pursue an Ausbildung as a Gestantungstechnische Assistentin, which gave me the opportunity to design the new logo for this wonderful community. Contact info: |
The BackgroundWe launched our club logo rebranding project in early 2024 with the objective to create a new logo that was contemporary and reflective of our international culture, location and core values. Before embarking on any creative designs, we reached out to you, our members via a survey to get your input into what the AIWCC means to you. The top words that came out were ‘friendship, networking, support, fun, international community, humanity, volunteering’. The most popular logo colours were red, white and blue and our members liked the idea of symbols such as the Kölner Dom, the bridge, circles and hearts being featured in the logo design. Armed with all this great feedback, we initially tendered the project to some Fiverr freelance designers but unfortunately, we did not receive anything that ‘wowed’ us. Then the wonderful Martina Mühlburger who runs our urban sketching group suggested working with her design students at the HHEK College in Bonn and a fantastic collaboration was born. In return for providing us with their time and expertise for free, the students had the chance to work on a brief for a real client thereby enhancing their creative portfolios. After initial chats with Martina and her colleague Daniela, Tricia R Saur and I held a series of meetings/Q&A sessions with the students where we presented our logo objectives and brief. The students worked diligently on their designs over the Spring term and presented them to us just after Easter. All of the artwork captured the designers’ unique styles and portrayed our club in many different contemporary and creative ways making it extremely difficult for us to choose a shortlist. But eventually we did and after providing some feedback and tweaks we eventually chose the winning design. This was created by Nadine Gedalje Perez Del Castillo and we all agreed that it was on brief, contemporary, versatile across all our media and overall truly reflective of what the AIWCC stands for.
